Located in the former 1905-era New River Inn is the History Museum with exhibits covering prehistoric times through the modern era. Porters are quick to assist with checking in bags curbside so that they can be processed to your cabin. Be sure to properly label bags with the luggage tags issued by the cruise line. Local and chain restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores abound nearby along U.S. 1, as well as along 17th Street leading to the Northport entrance. At each terminal, the private Go Airport shuttle has a pick-up location with a small and easily identifiable stand in front. The port’s enviable location in the heart of South Florida and the neighboring Caribbean makes it one of the three busiest cruise homeports in the world.

Pull up to the appropriate spot and you’ll be able to unload and load passengers. Given the location of the port, getting there is a breeze, especially if you are flying in. But even if you live in the area and plan on driving, you can still easily get to your ship and park at the port. We’ve covered all the ways to get to your cruise with our port transportation article. Below we have the highlights on the most popular ways to get to Port Everglades. Locals adore Dania Beach, a 20-minute drive from FLL or Port Everglades, because it's one of the least-crowded stretches of sand in the area.

While there are public buses in Fort Lauderdale, there's no easy or convenient way to transit from the airport to the port. Metro Shuttle Service costs $8 to $15 per person for the ride from FLL to Port Everglades, depending on the number of people in your group. The more people on your reservation, the lower your per person rate. If you carry The Platinum Card® from American Express, you have access to the Delta Sky Club at FLL, MIA and PBI. The information for the Hilton Aspire Amex card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

There are also a ton of great things to do in the Cape Canaveral area. Depending on your travel needs and budget, there are four airports you can choose from when planning your cruise from Fort Lauderdale. On May 10, 2018, USCG Cutter James offloaded in Port Everglades approx 6 tons of cocaine (street value USD 180 million) interdicted in international waters in the Pacific Ocean. Drugs were seized by 3 USCG cutters (Bertholf, Bear, James) and from 6 separate drug smuggling ships navigating off Central and South America and Mexico in the period February-April 2018. In June-July were seized over 7 tons of cocaine by cutters Mohawk (3395 kg), Tampa (1363 kg), Venturous (741 kg), Alert (981 kg). As container shipping (cargo) port, in 2013 Port Everglades was ranked Florida's 1st and USA's 10th busiest, handling over 1 million TEUs. These hotels are also less than 10 minutes from the port but are a great value -- on both points and in cash -- most nights of the year. Be sure to price out both the cash and points price to find the best value. During certain times of the year, the cash prices are so low, it simply doesn't make sense to spend your hard-earned points. The average one-way metered taxi fare from FLL to Port Everglades is between $15 and $17. The fee jumps to $75 if you're taking a taxi from MIA and it's $130 to $160 for a taxi ride from PBI, which is about an hour from the port.

So if you don’t need to park right at the ship and don’t mind an extra 10 minutes to get to the ship, you can save significantly. Drivers who are picking up cruise passengers by car after disembarkation can wait in the cell phone lot without charge until being called to pick up passengers from outside the terminal building. The waiting areas are at 1850 Eller Drive, just past the security checkpoint at the I-595 entrance to the Port, and at the parking lot north of Cruise Terminal 18. Hopefully, you will return to Port Everglades cruise terminal relaxed and refreshed after a fabulous cruise.

There are restrooms on both levels at Port Everglades terminal so look for signs. You can check out the official Port Everglades map and terminal locations here. Instead, contact your cruise line ahead of time to let them know if you'll need wheelchair assistance for embarkation. The Harbor Shops, which are accessible from 17th Street, is a convenient plaza with dining, grocery and clothing stores and banks. The private Go Airport shuttle has a pick-up location with a small stand in front. There is a free cell phone waiting lot for visitors picking up guests on disembarkation day.

Parking is available at the Midport Garage (also known as the Palm Garage), right across the street from the cruise terminal. Terminal 25There’s been a recent trend toward cruise lines building spectacular modern terminals and Terminal 25 fits the bill for Celebrity Cruises. As home to Celebrity — and the fleet’s most modern ships — Port Everglades has a sleek terminal to go along with those vessels.

Even better news is that given the popularity of cruising from Fort Lauderdale, the hotels in the area cater to cruise passengers. A number of them offer up perks like cruise parking or shuttles to the cruise port. There are two main parking garages at Port Everglades that offer covered parking. Heron Parking Garage is on the northern side of the port and is used for cruise terminals 2 and 4.

Terminal 2 is used by Princess Cruises and terminal 4 has recently been transformed into a 2nd home for Disney Cruise Line, having also been used by Carnival Cruise Line. Self Park FLLLocated on the south side of the Fort Lauderdale airport, this parking lot is a bit farther than the rest of the lots we’ve covered. However, it is still plenty close and offers both covered and uncovered parking for both airport and cruise passengers.

Local bus service stops at the Northport section of Port Everglades on SE 17th S. Located in the bustling yachting area of 17th Street, this beautiful hotel is popular amongst cruise guests. It's also a short walk to Broward County Convention Center, which you can reach on foot in less than 10 minutes. This is the closest major airport to the Cape Canaveral area, where many cruises leave from Port Canaveral, on Florida’s Space Coast.

Then you’ll sail from Terminal 4, the last cruise terminal in the Northport area and right next to the Convention Center. This terminal was recently redone to honor Disney and features a “Finding Nemo” motif on your way to the ship. Meanwhile, the port is also extremely close to the Fort Lauderdale airport. In other words you can fly in and be at your ship within an hour — even accounting for getting off the plane and getting to your ride. When it comes to convenience, it’s hard to beat the location of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Sitting right at the edge of the Atlantic, ships can leave from the port and be in the open water in a matter of minutes.
